Why every girl should watch Sex and the City once in their life

…or watch it once and then watch it as a comfort show forever.
Sex & the City (SATC) is for everyone; however, this post is more targeted towards the girlies (sorry boys).
I had heard of SATC almost my entire life, mainly by some women older than me who enjoyed watching it back in the late 90s. However, it wasn’t until after college, once I finally had more time to watch TV, that I picked it up.
After the first few episodes, I noticed I enjoyed the fashion, the scenery, and the humor throughout. However, I wasn’t invested yet, because who really can be after only a few episodes?
The more I kept watching, the more I started to understand why this show is still being talked about today, and even has a reboot And Just Like That (and no, I’m not watching it as I want to preserve my image of the show in my head).
The show created something that so many fail to do. Not only does it have fantastic characters, fantastic outfits, and is extremely sex positive, but the themes of womanhood and undeniable friendship are unlike any other. There is this theme throughout that demonstrates that men can teach you certain lessons, but the only people to consistently get you through those lessons, is the women around you.
Your friends will always be there for when a boy breaks your heart, leads you on, or continuously disappoints you. And everything I know personally about friendship, connection, and true deep love came from women, whether it is best friends, random women in a bar complimenting you, or your own mother.
A man may love you transactionally, but your friendships with women are unconditional.
Overall, SATC is the best representation of what it feels like to balance your romantic relationships, work, friendships, and growing up as a whole. Not only does it teach the viewers invaluable life lessons surrounding relationships and sex, but also about girlhood/womanhood and what discovering yourself can look like.
While each character may represent something different to you, each is of equal importance. So maybe ask your friends which character they think you are.
If I haven’t convinced you already to watch if you have yet to see it, you can even watch just for the fashion, New York City vibes, and the great looking men (biased towards Mr. Big).
P.S. if you find yourself making life decisions like Carrie, at least look fabulous while doing it.
